After 13 years (or so), we are ceasing production of Biocast this December.
Life is having a big shake up this year. A family situation has made it necessary to sell the farm where we make Biocast. But you know what? We were ready. It’s the right move for us. And instead of finding a new location straight away, we’ve decided to take a breather from tending worms every single day.
It’s a hard thing to let go of – we love our product, and we love our customers! We’re really proud to make the claim to be Australia’s highest quality vermiliquid producer, and to be helping to improve the health of our plants and soils.
Things to know:
- We are selling our equipment and the property, but we are not selling the Biocast name or the business – we have other plans for Island Biologicals!
- Biocast will be available for the rest of this year ONLY. It has a one year shelf life if stored correctly so we recommend stocking up to cover you either while you get your own vermisystem set up, or an alternative supplier comes online (currently as far as we know other commercial options are leachate systems, which we aren’t fans of, but we are working with a couple of newcomers so fingers crossed).
- To this end, we appreciate any advance orders to ensure you get your Biocast when you need it. Don’t wait for a ‘closing down’ sale, there won’t be one. There is no stockpile of Biocast to clear, we make it for you fresh cut from the beds.
The thing is though right, at the end of the day Biocast is a service as much as a product, and it seems silly shipping it long distances, especially with fuel as it is.
We see the use of QUALITY vermi products as essential to the future of successful Australian growing. They are second to none as a biostimulant.
Our vision is for there to be local production hubs all across the country, whether that be small businesses, cooperatives, DIY systems, or some other arrangement! e
If you would like to set up your own vermi system, make sure you join our next Farm-Scale Vermicomposting course, start date 22 Oct. Registrations are now open.
We are also taking expressions of interest for in-person training/ consults in 2027! Next year the whole family is jumping in a caravan and exploring Australia. Would you like us to come to you?? The plan is to start in Victoria in Feb with a wonderful dairy crew who are interested in getting their system going, and run some field days, then head north and follow the weather. Please let us know by phone or email if you’re interested in a visit!
