About this event

Has your farm been impacted by the recent floods?

This webinar was a discussion with fellow floodplain farmers who have been there and have a lesson or two to share from their successful recovery.

The conversation focussed around:

  • Rebuilding soil, and making something useful of the new layer of mud many find themselves with;
  • Rebuilding pasture, in particular the use of low risk, low-cost methods to get some feed growing as soon as possible; and
  • Managing your property and livestock for successful flood recovery

Your host

Lee Fieldhouse runs Island Biologicals (this business) and serves farmers across Australia with Biocast, our high-quality liquid biostimlant. He is a keen observer and has been lucky enough to work with and learn from some of Australia’s most innovative farmers and farm educators, with a particular focus on soil and plant health. He’s also a firm believer that some of the most valuable part of any field day are the chats with fellow farmers at lunch, and wisdom can be found in the local collective. This event aimed at facilitating some of that sharing.

Special guests

Chris Eggert is a dairy farmer at Oxhill Organics, at Wauchope on the Hastings River floodplain. Chris was heavily impacted by the 2021 floods, as well as the 2025 floods. He will discuss paddock recovery post ’21, and current observations on how those pastures are faring now with different management. Chris’s experiments with different seed mixes and planting styles demonstrate some of the surprising results that can be achieved in this region, even in winter.

Pat Allen is a Clarence River floodplain farmer, running ‘Pat’s Regen Grazing‘ channel on YouTube. Pat will share his insights from 2022 flood recovery, cattle management and rapid pasture recovery. Pat offers honest insights into the highs and the lows of flood recovery and offers valuable feedback for others moving forward in this situation.
