Add life to your plants with Biocast!
As a biostimulant, the role of Biocast is “to enhance nutrition efficiency, abiotic stress tolerance and/or crop quality traits.”1 It does just that.
Biocast can be used to aid the general health of all plants, as well as an immune booster (including pest and disease suppression), to assist recovery from shock (such as transplant, hail damage, and fire), and to aid soil health. It can also be used as a dressing for seeds and transplants, to aid their establishment.
What is Biocast?
Biocast is a liquid extract made from fully finished worm cast. It is liquid vermicast, not a leachate and not a vermiwash, lending to higher quality. Our quality-controlled, extended process is designed to optimise the beneficial compounds of the worm and associated microbial life. All supplements we add (like seaweed and calcium) have been through the worm first, making them stable and bioavailable. No other additives are used.
As a vermicast extract, Biocast contains:
- a diverse range of living, plant relevant microbes including fungi, bacteria and protozoa
- autoinducers/ signaling molecules, including plant hormones. Plant growth-stimulating hormones in vermicast include Gibberellins, auxins like indole-3-acetic acid, and cytokinins
- enzymes
- fulvic acid (typical analysis ~2%)
- trace amounts of bio-available nutrients
How much do I need?
Biocast is a concentrate. For general use it dilutes with water 1:20. 20 L Biocast will make 400 L mixed. Mixing instructions are on the bottle.
For seed dressing, you will need 5-10 L/tonne seed, depending how efficient your mixing method is.
For crops, pastures and turf, apply at 5 L/ha. If you have any areas that are struggling (e.g. wear and tear, disease issues), apply at 7 L/ha to those affected parts.
For tree crops and vines, and for hydroponic and green wall settings please contact us to calculate your application rate.
For most plants, we recommend monthly application as optimal. Many farmers using Biocast as a foliar choose to apply twice per growing season.
For very fast-growing plants (e.g. vegetables) or very high production times we recommend weekly to fortnightly application.
Biocast is shelf stable and good for at least one year if stored in a protected place. It is made fresh to order.
